Part-Time Employment

In the Netherlands, international students have the option to work part-time for 10-16 hours per week. They can earn up to €20 per hour, approximately equivalent to INR 1,700. Various part-time opportunities are available at the university level, such as volunteering for assistantships in the library, working with lecturers, and tutoring. It’s important to note that not being proficient in Dutch is not a hindrance, as English is widely used at administrative and educational levels.

Post-Study Work Visa

Students can apply for a post-study work visa (the orientation year) after completing their degree in the Netherlands. Post Study Work Permit visa allows you to stay in the country for one year. It does not allow for extension unless you pursue further education. With a post-study work permit, you can work unrestrictedly in the Netherlands. The monthly salary must be at least €2,089.16 with a holiday allowance, or €1,934 without. You are free to pursue another study program without needing a separate work permit, and you also have the option to work as an independent entrepreneur or a self-employed worker.

Long Stay Visa (More Than 90 Days)

Also known as an MVV (Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf). Allows you to stay for the duration of your educational program plus an additional 3 months. Requires an MVV (entry visa) and a residence permit (VVR). You can work if your employer has a work permit. Registration in the Personal Records Database (BRP) is also necessary.

Short Stay Visa (Less Than 90 Days)

Also known as a Schengen visa. Suitable for short courses lasting 90 days or less, such as Dutch language courses. No MVV (entry visa) or residence permit is required. You won't be able to work during this period. Registration in the Personal Records Database (BRP) in your municipality is necessary.
