1. Course Overview & Exam Details

Purpose

The GRE General Test evaluates your verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills essential for graduate-level programs.

Computer-based

Consists of 6 sections—1 Analytical Writing (Issue & Argument tasks), followed by two each of Verbal and Quantitative reasoning, plus an unscored experimental or research section. The total time is around 3 hours and 45 minutes, including breaks.

Scoring:

  • Verbal & Quantitative: 130–170 each, in 1-point increments
  • Analytical Writing: 0.0–6.0, in 0.5 increments
  • oScores remain valid for 5 years

2. Exam Fee in India & Registration Process

Fees (all inclusive of GST):

  • GRE General Test: ₹22,000–₹22,550 depending on the source
  • GRE Subject Test: ₹14,500

Additional Fees:

  • Rescheduling / Changing Center: ₹5,000
  • Additional Score Reports: ₹2,900 each

Registration Steps:

  • Create or log in to your ETS India account, ensuring your name matches the one on your passport exactly.
  • Click Register / Find Test Centers, select GRE General Test.
  • Pick your date, pay the fee, and complete registration.
  • Receive a confirmation email.
  • Download the GRE Information Bulletin (India) for full policy details.

3. Prep Plan & Study Strategies

Official Resources:

  • Use Free websites available on the Internet for realistic full-length practice with real GRE tools and timing.
  • Download official ETS prep books: Analytical Writing prompts, section samples, etc.

1-Month Condensed Plan:

  • Combine ETS materials with structured prep platforms.

10-Week Comprehensive Plan

  • Week 1–2: Arithmetic, algebra, vocabulary (100 words/week)
  • Week 3–4: Verbal (RC, argument), geometry, word problems
  • Week 5–6: Data interpretation; Practice Test #1 with time analysis
  • Week 7–8: More timed practice, mock tests, and review of weak sections
  • Week 9–10: Final mocks, polishing, and test-day readiness

4. Test-Day Advice

Simulate the real test

Simulate the real test during practice: replicate breaks, timing, environment, even sitting at the same time of day, and with your passport nearby helps mentally prep.

  • Start with a diagnostic test.
